Been silently learning and working on building the best acoustic instruments I can get my hands on. It all started with my recent picking up of the mandolin. The instrument really spoke to me, and I quickly wanted to upgrade from my $100 China-ply Rogue. Purchased a $600 Loar 510 and loved the thing and still record with it today. The next level in sound was such a huge jump in price and would lead me to a handmade mandolin. In a typical fashion for me as I try and make everything I can myself at least once, I teamed up with a friend who was building a few electric guitars and went from there. Ended up reading for about a year and finally buying a few books and forging ahead on my own as I surpassed my teachers level of detail and execution rather quickly
4 Instruments have been made so far, with #4 awaiting its final french polishing and adding the tuners and fitting a bridge. The first mandolin I completed was quite the feat and took me almost all of 8-9 months to complete. Probably the hardest thing I have done in my life, since I had no prior wood working experience. It turned out to have such a beautiful sound and tone that I fell in love and couldn’t wait to push on with the next two instruments.
